Our Hospital was designed and built as an Animal Hospital in 1962 by Dr. Sandy Graham. An addition was made in 1971. Internal renovations were done in 1989 to provide the hospital you see today. The concrete block and terrazzo floor construction will continue to serve for many more years. New windows and siding were added in 2003. A new parking lot was added in 2006 on the East side of the building, which has increased convenience to our clients. An automated irrigation system was added for the summer of 2008 which helped keep our gardens and lawn looking lush throughout the season Major renovations to our reception area and moving to a computerized ‘paperless’ practice are the goals in motion for 2009.
The Grimsby Animal Hospital was founded by Dr. Sandy Graham who practised out of his home until building the hospital in 1962. Dr. Bill Hughes joined the practice in 1971 and Dr. Graham retired in 1981. Dr. Bill Davis joined the practice in 1989. Dr. Peters arrived in 1996 and bought Dr. Hughes’ shares in 2002, when he retired. Dr. Cline has been with us since 1999 working part time. Dr. Gough joined us in 2003 and became a partner in 2010.
With four veterinarians from three different decades we provide a variety of practice styles for your benefit. Our veterinarians attend at least 40 hours of formal continuing education yearly so that newer developments and procedures are at the forefront of our mission to provide modern, effective and compassionate veterinary care. With 4 veterinarians we do frequently discuss patients and how to proceed with each case. This is especially beneficial when we encounter difficult cases.
Our Hospital has been accredited by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, our licensing organization. This involves regular on site inspections of our premises. This inspection includes specific standards for patient record keeping, equipment requirements, pharmacy controls, library, and sanitation.
We are also proud to be accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, and we celebrated our 25th anniversary of this accreditiation in 2003! We volunteer to have our hospital evaluated on a regular basis by a trained professional who ensures we comply with the association’s high standards of veterinary care. These standards apply to emergency services, surgery, anaesthesia, radiology, pathology, nursing care, pharmacy, dentistry, examination facilities, equipment, pet medical records, medical library, housekeeping and maintenance. AAHA also has an excellent continuing education program. It’s our way of being certain your pet is receiving the very best care we can offer. We have been a certified hospital since 1978 and remain one of only four in the Hamilton/Niagara region!
