Vaccines for Puppies & Dogs

By vaccinating your puppy or dog, you’re building their immune system to fight against diseases.

Creating a vaccination plan allows us to determine which vaccines are right for your puppy or dog, depending on various risk factors. We are confident in the effectiveness of the vaccines we administer and how they protect against fatal diseases. To learn more about our vaccination plans, please contact us at 905-945-8631.

Are vaccines mandatory for dogs?

Ultimately the decision to vaccine your dog is yours. Our goal is to help educate you to make the best choice for your pet.

Vaccines are separated into two categories: core and non-core. Core vaccines are recommended for all puppies and dogs because they help build immunity against diseases that pose the highest risk to their health. Through vaccinations, your puppy or dog can fight against the disease if they are exposed to it. This means either full protection against the illness or they won’t have a fatal case if they contract it.

Non-core vaccines are recommended based on your pet’s lifestyle or the environment you live in. For example, if your dog is continuously exposed to other dogs while boarding or in other settings, it could be beneficial for them to be vaccinated against Bordetella. Our veterinarians commonly recommend dogs be vaccinated against:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Parvovirus
  • Leptospirosis

Why does my dog need a rabies vaccine?

Many areas have laws that require dogs to be vaccinated against rabies. These laws help protect both dogs and people from this deadly disease. Thanks to rabies laws, prevention programs, and owners’ cooperation, domesticated pets in North America rarely become infected. By keeping your dog up-to-date on their rabies vaccination, you are helping to eradicate rabies from the pet population in your community.
